The City of Orillia is inviting residents and business owners to provide feedback on a proposal to offer naming rights and commercial leasing opportunities for select municipal properties. The initiative aims to generate new, non-tax revenue by allowing local businesses to sponsor public facilities.

Potential sites include the Orillia Recreation Centre, Rotary Place, the Opera House, the Orillia Public Library, and the Waterfront Centre. Under consideration are both full facility naming rights and smaller-scale opportunities, such as branding specific rooms or amenities.

An online survey is open at the city’s website until July 7, giving the public a chance to weigh in before the proposal is brought back to council this summer.

Mayor Don McIsaac noted the city is exploring all feasible options to maximize public assets while maintaining fiscal responsibility. City staff are also gauging interest in allowing small businesses to lease space at high-traffic civic locations.

The proposal reflects a broader trend across Simcoe County, where similar partnerships have been used to support municipal programs and reduce pressure on property taxes.
