The City of Grande Prairie has awarded Fossil Energy the official naming rights for the Bear Creek Ball Diamonds, which will now be known as Fossil Energy Ball Park. The agreement marks another step in the City’s growing use of naming rights partnerships to enhance public recreation spaces while fostering collaboration with local businesses.

The partnership underscores the City’s focus on working with community-minded organizations to strengthen municipal amenities and create long-term value for residents. The 12-diamond complex, one of Grande Prairie’s busiest recreation assets, hosts more than 165 ball teams across all leagues and records over 2,800 hours of scheduled play each year. The venue also attracts regional tournaments and events, contributing to local sport tourism and economic activity.

The facility’s main diamonds feature full dugouts, lighting, bleacher seating and a digital score clock, while additional fields are equipped with modified amenities to accommodate a range of recreational uses. Updated signage reflecting the new name will be installed in the spring, ahead of the upcoming playing season.

Grande Prairie’s naming rights and sponsorship program is guided by the City’s Sponsorship and Advertising Policy, which provides a framework for recognizing corporate and community partnerships that support municipal programs, facilities and events. The policy enables the City to generate non-tax revenue and maintain high-quality public amenities through responsible collaboration with private-sector partners.

In recent years, Grande Prairie has expanded its sponsorship strategy across a number of civic facilities, including Bonnetts Energy Centre, Design Works Centre and the Eastlink Centre, each secured through agreements that help offset operating costs and fund facility improvements. These partnerships reflect the City’s broader commitment to sustainable financial management and community investment through corporate collaboration.

The Fossil Energy Ball Park naming rights agreement reinforces this approach, ensuring that local recreation continues to thrive through innovative partnerships that celebrate both community engagement and fiscal responsibility.
